1. How wide is your cabinet? I didn't see any mention of width dimensions.
The cabinet is about 25 7/16" wide. The width of the cabinet was completely determined by the width of the X-Arcade Controller base.
The X-Arcade Controller comes with the controller top sitting on a little box that contains all the guts of it. It's made to be kind of a standalone controller that can sit on the floor or on a table top.
What I did was remove the controller top from that box/base and then built my cabinet to be the same exact width as that box/base.
The controller top is actually wider than its base and I kind of liked the look of it (it's just like kitchen counters that overhang the cabinets). I made my MAME cabinet so it would have the same look (the controller is actually wider than the cabinet).
I used a 19" LG flat panel. I think a 20" or maybe even a 21" would fit. The most difficult thing about the monitor was finding one that didn't have buttons on the front of it (the buttons would interfere with the monitor sitting flush up against the glass).
This particular monitor had buttons (on/off, menu, exit) on the side of the monitor.
Would it be possible to use a larger monitor with the dimensions you provided? It seems like the only thing restricting the monitor size is the Bezel. If the bezel opening size was made larger could you fit a larger monitor?

Yes, a larger monitor would fit. The only issue is that nowadays, they really don't make the 4:3 (or whatever the aspect ratio was for those monitors) in larger sizes. It's actually almost impossible to find anything other than widescreen monitors.
I recently completely redesigned the cabinet. It's slightly wider and I now use a 24" widescreen monitor. It looks and works nicely. I also make my own control panels now (instead of using the X-Arcade controller).
I'm in the process of designing a new site that has the step-by-step instructions and plans for building this new cabinet, but I'm not quite finished with it.
If you're planning on starting a cabinet build really soon, send me a message and I'll see if I can help you out with the new plans.
